De-Babying the downstairs

Julie got new furniture, so she gave us her old couch. To get it out of her house and into ours we needed help, so Curtis asked one of his labmates, Will. Now, Julie doesn't know about Zachary, and neither do any of the others at school. To maintain the secret, we moved all the baby stuff that we had downstairs and hid it upstairs. There was so much! It took two days to find it all and move it, then I had to rearrange the downstairs a little bit to hide the voids where the baby stuff was so it wasn't obvious something was missing. Here are the "after" pictures:

Big Fat Snowflakes

It snowed all day yesterday. It didn't really stick to the ground though, just in the shade. The sun was in and out of clouds, but that didn't make it any warmer! I had Zachary in his feeding seat facing the sliding glass door at one point and it looked like he was watching the snow.

I talked to you while I was filming, but I was talking quietly, so it's a little hard to hear. You can read my comments below.

"Big fat snowflakes. I don't know if you can see 'em.
What's he eating? The other one's sleeping in there.
We can't forget Zachary. He's sleeping over here. There he is!
Back to the big fat snowflakes. Ooh, blind you! Wow! Is it going to come back? There it is. Sunshine! How pretty. K, that's probably enough."

Messy Messy Messy

Zachary had his first diaper blow out today. Very icky. It was all up his back. No wonder he was fussing! You know, though, almost 6 months old and this is his first one? That's pretty good! I attribute it to the cloth diapers, of course :)

Blessed Sleep

Zachary slept 8 hours last night! He goes to bed about 8pm, but he often wakes up around midnight, then again at 2am. But last night he didn't wake up until closer to 4! It was sooo nice to get such a stretch of uninterrupted sleep!! (No, I didn't get 8 hours - I haven't had 8 hours of solid sleep in 6 months)

I think this is the second time he's slept 8 hours. So what was different about last night that he didn't wake up at midnight?

Zachary and his daddy

Curtis was playing a game with Zachary that was making him giggle. I grabbed the camera and started to film it. As soon as the camera was on, Zachary changed the rules.

We don't need no stinkin' bibs!

To keep from changing his outfit more often than I have to, I've started using all the adorable bibs we received (I like picking one that matches his outfit :) ) This morning he's wearing dinosaurs. He's sitting in the feeding seat, playing with his keys. As I put the bib on him it caught his attention and he started playing with it (it has 3D dinosaur feet.) I came back to the computer and continued checking my emails. When I turned around, the bib was on the floor! I guess I'll have to secure it better this time...

He's Sitting!

Zachary is now sitting without support! He still leans over a little bit, but he's definitely supporting himself! He can't pull himself up to the position, at least, not yet.

Mission: Impossible 2

It's Valentine's Day. We're going out to dinner tonight, so of course, I'd like to take a shower and get a little dressed up. Here's the deal: Zachary likes to grab my hair, so I've been wearing it up. After my shower I'd like to leave it down, so I didn't take a shower during his morning nap. I said, "I'll take it this afternoon. Zachary often takes a nap in the afternoon, so this'll work out perfectly!" But, it's now 2:30, Zachary's wide awake, and (if he goes to sleep) I'm not sure he's going to take a long enough nap for me to get anything done! lol

Ouch

Zachary bonked his head this morning. I had him sitting in the feeding seat (it has straps that attach it to one of our regular chairs) and the chair was at an angle towards the table. I was doing something else when I heard "clunk!" Sure enough, seconds later, he erupted. He must have leaned forward (probably to grab his foot) a little too quickly. I don't blame him for crying so loud - it sounded like it really hurt! He calmed down quickly enough when I picked him up. He's got a nice red mark on his forehead, but it's not raised.

Pack 'n' Play Graduation

Zachary has graduated to the lower part of the pack and play. He's gotten too big for the bassinet part. He's been too big for it for a while, but I finally got around to taking it out. It's a new experience for him, so he's busy exploring it (scratching at the mesh, trying to grab the stuff on the other side). It's a good thing he likes it, because the blanket we usually have on the floor for him is in the wash. Speaking of which, I think it's probably done, along with the diaper covers.

Baby Kisses

Baby kisses!! He grabs me around the neck (or grabs my hair), pulls himself close and gives me baby kisses! They're wet, slobbery things, and he often sucks on my cheek, but it's so sweet :)

Mission: Impossible

Since it's my birthday, I'm looking forward to taking a nice, hot shower while Zachary naps. He usually takes a long nap in the morning, starting sometime between 9 and 10. But here's the problem: I cleaned up the kitchen this morning and started the dishwasher. So now I'm wondering if there'll be enough hot water for a shower when Zachary falls asleep. (This is, of course, assuming he's going to take a nap, since it's been two hours since he woke up and he's still going strong.)

Every day's an adventure!

Giggles

I was holding Zachary and Curtis was explaining something to me. The explanation involved arm gestures that were apparently very funny to Zachary. Next thing you know, we're jumping around just to hear the baby laugh! To me, though, it's worth being silly just to hear that wonderful, amazing, nothing-else-like-it-in-the-world sound of your child laughing.
